Meet Bill & Kelly! Bill and Kelly live at Balsam Terrace, one of our properties for the elderly and adults with disabilities. They have been married for 19 years, and have built a life rooted in love, resilience, and mutual care. Kelly, a gentle and thoughtful soul, has lived with seizures since she was a child. Shockingly, she didn’t even know about her condition until she was 14, having been prescribed seizure medication since age 2 without explanation from her all-hearing family. Life’s hardships continued to test her resolve. In 2002, her mother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away a year later — a loss that still lingers in Kelly’s heart.
Then came Bill. Their love story began in 2005, and from that moment on, they became each other’s greatest source of strength. They have faced health challenges together ever since. Four years ago, Kelly’s seizures became more frequent and unpredictable, sometimes triggered by flashing strobe lights. Bill, who is deaf and now uses a wheelchair, played a vital role during one of Kelly’s scariest moments. When she started seizing at home, he desperately tried to communicate with paramedics using a message board. But as confusion grew, it was Bill’s decisive call to “Take her to the hospital, NOW” that got her the urgent care she needed.
Their love is a partnership in every sense of the word. Kelly ensures Bill eats well and pushes his wheelchair when needed, while Bill drives them to appointments and safeguards Kelly during her seizures. When Bill began struggling with mobility, Kelly was the one who reached out to his doctor, leading to him getting a wheelchair. Thanks to the support of their housing community, Bill now has a motorized wheelchair, giving him newfound independence.
Through everything, Bill and Kelly remain a testament to love’s power to endure. Their home at Balsam Terrace has not only given them stability but also empowered them to live more independently. Here, they have found more than housing — they have found hope.
