The
TRUE NORTH PROJECT FOR VETERANS is a comprehensive program for Veterans who are struggling, in crisis or at-risk of serious instability in their lives. The program provides Veterans with the support, resources and hope they need to successfully win "the war at home" and achieve their full potential in all areas of their life.
The
TRUE NORTH PROJECT FOR VETERANS reaches out to Veterans wherever they are in their journey towards healing & stability and offers a full continuum of supportive services & interventions that are individually tailored to meet the unique needs of each Veteran.
Specific programs within the
TRUE NORTH PROJECT FOR VETERANS include:
Hero 2 Hero Program
Provides support for Veterans who are also working as police officers and firemen to address their unique challenges as Veterans and first responders.
Veterans Court
Provides outreach and support services for Veterans who are first time, non-violent felony offenders who are involved in Cook County's Veterans Court.
A Home for the Brave
An initiative designed to increase awareness about the present and emerging needs homeless Veterans face in our communities. Volunteers of America Illinois' Hope Manor Apartments in Chicago, IL provides housing and extensive support services to more than 80 Veterans a year.
Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program
Provides the Support, training and opportunities needed for homeless Veterans to secure and maintain viable, long term employment and achieve economic self-sufficiency and overall stability.
Street Outreach
Creates opportunities to reach out, in partnership with the Chicago Police, to our Nation's Veterans who are homeless and struggling the most.
Operation Duffle Bag
Provides toiletries, cold weather accessories, winter coats and clothing to Veterans in our programs.
Veterans Olympics
Held annually, this event is designed for Veterans from all ages and branches of the military to interact and compete in a fun way.
Veterans Leadership Luncheon
Annually, we convene experts and leaders in Veterans affairs to discuss the challenges facing our Nation's Veterans. At the event, we honor several local heroes.
Veterans Thanksgiving Luncheon
Each year, Volunteers of America Illinois gives thanks to our Nation's Veterans for their service to our Country during the week of Thanksgiving.
